Getting around

Rome has an intensive transport network made of the Metro (subway), tramway and bus systems.

Rome Metro was opened in 1995 and its total length now is 38 km. Its two lines (A & B) intersect at Stazione Termini, the main train station in Rome. The metro stations close at 23.30 and regular lines of buses and trams stop at midnight. Then night buses are available.

You can buy transport ticket at Tabacceria (big T sign outside) or newspaper kiosks or in “Bars” inside the Metro stations. A ticket is for one metro ride and as many bus/tram stations you can do it an hour and a quarter. It is advisable to walk around the center of the city. You are not allowed to use cars in certain parts of the city due to the traffic problems.
